Voting from outside your constituency

I was just wondering other day why is it always compulsory to move to your hometown every election if you want to vote? Won’t it be a good idea to vote from the place where you are currently located.
I remember in last Loksabha polls, Kashmiri Pandits who migrated away from Kashmir were allowed to vote through post but then their vote won’t be completely a private thing. But in this “E-world”, i don’t think secret voting should not be very difficult.

The process can be through E-polling booths situated at maybe the election office at different places. We can have one per constituency. The voting process can briefly understood from following diagram. {Click on image to view full size}.

Through this plan, we can maintain the secrecy of voter identity and yet allow people to vote from their current location. Election commission should take up such initiatives for voters’ convenience.

A good workable idea; except for the fact that politicos would not like it to be implemented. The “NOTE” bank shall disappear
